NBC's Cyberchat with

Hobie Hubbard and Mark Miller of
"Sawyer Brown"

Hobie Hubbard:
This is our first time on the internet, so it's a new experience for us.
Mark Miller:
I guess we're very interested in the proceedings here.
NBCHost:
Amanda, Augusta GA----I would have to say that my absolute favorite song is "TheWalk" (By the way Mark, you did a beautiful job writing that) I was curious, which song means the most to all of you?
Mark Miller:
"The Walk" would probably rate up there as being very meaningful.
Hobie Hubbard:
The walk is my favorite song. I think it's very honest and real and that 's a mark of a great song.
NBCHost:
Karissa Freshour From Oklahoma Hey guys, I just got on here, so If this question has already been asked, then I apologize....I was wondering if all of y'all are going to be at fan fair this year???
Hobie Hubbard:
We are going to be there. We have a breakfast for our fans on Monday morning the16th and we'll be at the Music City Awards that night. And we'll be signing at our booth on Tuesday and Wednesday. We look forward to seeing you there!
NBCHost:
A.J. from Tucson Arizona: You guys always put on such an energetic show -- even after all these years! :-) You put the youngsters to shame, how do you maintain your energy? P.S. Mark: How's my pal David Hill doing? Is he still with ya? Tell him hello for me!
Mark Miller:
David Hill still is with us. I think we love performing and as long as we love it, the energy will stay at the level it always has been.
NBCHost:
Hi Guys! My name is Kathy, and I have been a Sawyer Brown fan since you were on Star Search. My first question is for Mark...I am sure your must do a lot of physical activity to stay in such great shape to have such an energetic show...what kind of fitness program do you have? kteems@grove.net.....North Carolina
Mark Miller:
I do the Richard Simmons tape "Groovin' to the Oldies" and I always play basketball about 5 days a week.
NBCHost:
How did you all meet? Dolly in TX
Hobie Hubbard:
Mark and I have known each other since junior high. We met all the other guys in Nashville when we worked for a singer named Don King.
NBCHost:
I've noticed that you guys have some great promotional materials...and the new ablum looks great! I hope you treat your art director like the precious jewel that she is. :-) I know that you are filming your nect video tomorrow...what can you tell us about it? P.S. Thanks for allowing me the opportunity to play my own little part in the "SIX DAYS" project, you're my favorite client! Thanks! Monica from Lincoln.
Hobie Hubbard:
We thought about having the next lead in the video named Monica but we changed our mind. We love her.
NBCHost:
When you are on the road and you have any free time, how do you spend that free time? Kathy in North Carolina
Mark Miller:
I do my workout tapes, I play basketball, I ride rides at the fair, drink cokes and call 1-800 collect.
Hobie Hubbard:
Pretty much all I do is watch TV - "Rosie," "Rolanda," "Sally Jesse," "Jeraldo," "Charles Grodin," "Jane Pauley," and "Mike Douglas" reruns.
NBCHost:
What is one of the craziest experiences you have ever encountered while performing at a concert? - Joey in Milwaukee
Mark Miller:
Probably the weirdest thing that happened to me was some girls grabbed the front of my pants and completely ripped my pants open and I had to exit the stage. They completely pulled me off the stage into like a mosh pit.
Hobie Hubbard:
One time a fly flew into my water on stage but I don't think that's as interesting as Mark's story.
NBCHost:
A.J. from Tucson, Arizona: Soon you guys will perform at the Country Thunder Festival in Queen Creek, Ariz. Do you prefer outdoor venues to arenas? Or do you prefer clubs? And why?
Hobie Hubbard:
We like the outdoor venues and arenas probably the best because you get a lot of people and we feed off the energy of the audience. We've been at that festival every year in Queens Creek in Arizona since they've had it and we're looking forward to going back.
NBCHost:
Where did the name "Sawyer Brown" come from? Sheila in Canada
Mark Miller:
It's the name of a road in Nashville and we just took the name from the road.
NBCHost:
"(This thing called) wantinâ and havinâ it all" is such a fun, upbeat song. Who wrote it? countryfan@aol.com
Hobie Hubbard:
It was written by a guy named Dave Loggin and Ronnie Samosat.
NBCHost:
If you guys could tour with anyone, who would it be? Shannon Craig, BX93 Radio, London Ontario, Canada
Hobie Hubbard:
If we were touring with Tina Turner I'd give up some of those TV programs.
NBCHost:
Amanda from GA----Hi! I am a big fan...I love your sense of humor. Are you always like that?
Mark Miller:
Yes, .... we're even funny when we sleep.
NBCHost:
Hey guys. I was just wondering if the rumor about you releasing a Christmas album is true. If it is, did any of you write any of the songs? Or will they be remakes? Koko, grounds keeper of www.kokosuniverse.com
Mark Miller:
Yes, we are currently in the studio recording an album. It will be 12 songs - 10 originals and 2 remakes.
NBCHost:
Hey Guys!! Beverly from Port Allen, Louisiana here. I was wondering what advice would you give young people who want to b/c a country music singer?
Hobie Hubbard:
Stay in school, make sure you get a good education and then just be ready to follow your dream. Work as hard as you'll have to to make it happen.
NBCHost:
Of all the videos you have shot, which one is your favourite? Shannon Craig, BX93 Radio, London Ontario, Canada
Hobie Hubbard:
"The Walk" is my favorite.
Mark Miller:
My favorite one is "Some Girls Do" and the current "Six Days On The Roads"
NBCHost:
I love the dance routine in the Six Days on the Road video, how long did it take to perfect? Shannon Craig, BX93 Radio, London Ontario Canada
Mark Miller:
I started working on that dance routine around Christmas time and we shot the video 3 weeks later. My brother helped me work out some of the choreography.
NBCHost:
What a great idea! I met you guys on Feb. 9th in Missoula, MT. GREAT SHOW! Happy early Birthday Jim!! This may sound strange, but I would like to be a tour/road manager. Do you have any suggestions as to how I may accomplish this goal? Lauri Jo Copenhaver
Hobie Hubbard:
That's probably the hardest job on the road; it certainly is with us. You have to oversee a lot of people and you have to keep the whole show running, so be prepared to work very hard.
NBCHost:
NBCHost: What has been the most beautiful place you have visited while touring? - Sally Jo in CA
Mark Miller:
Mizzoula, Montana.
Hobie Hubbard:
I'd have to agree with Mizzoula - it's beautiful out there and it's a place I never would have seen if I wasn't on the road.
NBCHost:
The 1-800-collect commericals that you have done in the past rocked!...any new ones coming out in the future? Justin--GA
Mark Miller:
We'll probably shooting some more 1-800 collect commercials later in the summer.
NBCHost:
As country music changes over the years, what so you think you have contributed to the style? Nicole, Scranton
Hobie Hubbard:
I don't know if we've contributed to the style but I hope we've contributed music that means something to the people.
NBCHost:
What is your favourite part about being on the road and Why? Is it flying in your new plane? Shannon Craig, BX93 Radio, London Ontario Canada
Hobie Hubbard:
Actually my favorite part is riding on the bus. You get to see more of the countryside that way.
Mark Miller:
My favorite. part about being on the road is getting to perform every night.
NBCHost:
Jackson from Jasper AR: I heard once in an interview that you are big NBA fans. Who do you all see going into the playoffs? What do you think of my favorite team, the New York Knicks?
Mark Miller:
In the East I'm a Boston Celtics fan and in the West I'm a Utah Jazz fan. All I can say is I respect the Knicks.
NBCHost:
Does your family tour with you? Shannon Craig, BX93 Radio, London Ontario Canada
Mark Miller:
They sometimes do - about 3 or 4 trips a year.
NBCHost:
Just heard that you included the song "Nebraska" on the new cd in honor of Brooke Berringer....I think that is an excellent thing to do. It just goes to show the class act you are. Thank you for entertaining us with you excellent music and personalities! Amanda, Augusta
Hobie Hubbard:
Amanda, thank you that's awfully nice. Brooke was a great guy so it was the least we could do to pay tribute to him.
NBCHost:
Do you ever miss the "Out Going Cattin'" days of SB with the flashy costumes and tons of upbeat songs? I love you just as much now as I did then but it's fun to look back at those wilder days. Monica in Salt Lake City
Hobie Hubbard:
I still wear the leopard pants even when we're not working.
Mark Miller:
In those days we were young and they were a blast.
NBCHost:
What is your favourite part about being musicians/performers and why? Shannon Craig, BX93 Radio in London Ontario Canada
Hobie Hubbard:
I've never owned a pair of leopard pants. My favorite part is getting to make the music. Sitting in a room and writing songs and performing is a dream come true.
Mark Miller:
Getting to talk to fans like we're doing tonight
Mark Miller:
Bye bye
Hobie Hubbard:
We just want to thank every body for taking part and we hope we see everybody on the road. And go out and check out our new album, "6 Days on the Road."
NBCHost:
Thank you for a great chat everyone. :-) And thank you to Mark Miller and Hobie Hubbard for taking the time off their busy schedules.
