Lyrics From Travelin' Band
Second floor, third door
On the right, just before
The broken down ice machine
Across the hall, through the wall
I can hear the party all night
I can't get no sleep
Pizza boxes stacked up
Jimmy's always jacked up
Been living on the couch all week
It's like I'm fading into nothing
Another ripple in the ocean
I just wanna feel something
Before I waste
One more day
I'm crying out but no one's hearing
No one can see me disappearing
Some people just live to die
And that's ok
But I ain't goin' out that way
Friday night they're getting high
Everybody's living life
One warm beer at a time
Dirty socks, X-Box
Jimmy's gone, change the locks
Before he comes back tonight
I ain't got a dime and
What have I been buying
This is where I draw the line
It's like I'm fading into nothing
Another ripple in the ocean
I just wanna feel something
Before I waste
One more day
I'm crying out but no one's hearing
No one can see me disappearing
Some people just live to die
And that's ok
But I ain't goin' out that way
It's like I'm fading into nothing
Another ripple in the ocean
I just wanna feel something
Before I waste
One more day
I'm crying out but no one's hearing
No one can see me disappearing
Some people just live to die
And that's ok
But I ain't goin' out that way
I ain't goin' out that way
I walk around with a big fat grin
I can't believe how lucky I've been
Like Opie and Andy, the Mayberry life
With my kids and my dogs and my smokin' hot wife
I got a truck and some land
And I play in a band with my friends on a Saturday night
I thank God for the good life
I'm fightin' the good fight
From the porch in the swing by my smokin' hot wife
I ain't much to look at, so I don't know how
I ended up with the milk and the cow
We're off to Daytona, we're packed in tight
My kids and their friends and my smokin' hot wife
I got my toes in the sand, an ice tea in my hand
And I'm livin' out the fantasy life
I look out at the ocean and yell for more lotion
From my chair at the beach by my smokin' hot wife
She's so fine
She's all mine
I'm a fortunate man and I fold my hands
On my knees every night
I'm thankin' sweet Jesus 'cause when everyone see us they say
Holy Pete how did he get a smokin' hot wife?
He's got some kids and some dogs and a smokin' hot wife
He's got a porch and a swing and a smokin' hot wife
She's so fine
She's all mine
They were searchin' for stars when we came along
It was rock 'n roll in a country song
There were five of us thinking that we can
This is the life and times of a traveling band
Hollywood had a funny face
So we took our chances and we got away
Back to Nashville, Tennessee
Hobie, Bobby, Jim and Joe and me
No the west coast life
Didn't fit just right
You could see us on the television
It ain't easy bein' all that grand
So we put on our blue jeans and our t-shirts
And made off with our guitars in the van
And took our place
Out on the stage
In a travelin' band
We heard our song on the radio
Along with the "Gambler" we hit the road
All across the USA
We were gypsies on parade
We were all about three chords and the truth
We wrote our songs on the bus, in the booth
Some go fast like "Some Girls Do"
Some go slow like "Used to Blue"
When the lights went down
We could hear the crowd
We headlined our first show in Salt Lake City
We still make a stop there now and then
They've got all our faces on their t-shirts
You should have seen our hairdos way back when
We took our place
On the stage
In a travelin' band
Fame and fortune don't mean much
Without someone to hold and someone to touch
Some wives left, some stayed on
So who do you love when the beat goes on
Now we're 27 years and a million miles
Shifting gears and changing styles
We said goodbye to old DC
Now it's Hobie, Shayne and Jim, the Joes and me
And when "The Race is On"
They all sing along
Now I'd like to take this time to thank you
Though it's been a long and winding road
I count my blessings when I see those faces
And I look down at this guitar in my hand
And I take my place
On the stage
In a travelin' band
I'm in a travelin' band
Come over here, honey, I gotta talk to you
She knows I'm a certified mechanic
If it's broke I can fix it in a minute
Got a background buildin' engines
And my name on a dirty shirt
So I said "Where'd you get those new Pirellis?"
She said "What the heck are new Pirellis?
"And why you gettin' so defensive?
"I was just out with my girlfriends
"For a sale at the mall and a hairdo
"Thought I'd drop the car off for a tune-up
"So what?"
I said "I ain't callin' you a liar honey
"But a girl just don't go get a new set of tires"
Unless she's leavin'
Unless she ain't comin' back
Unless she drove 'em over broken glass and run 'em all flat
Unless racin' Dale Jr. is her secret desire
A girl just don't go get a new set of tires
Now she knows she can tippy-toe right past me
In new clothes, shoes and shiny jewelery
With a box of chocolate candy
And a big bouquet of daisies
And I wouldn't even blink
But uh-uh, ain't no sneakin' around it
If it rolls, I know everything about it
I've been up and underneath it
I can eat and drink and sleep it
Baby, 'cause of my life
Now you might soap it and wash it in the drive, honey
But a girl just don't go get a new set of tires
Unless she's leavin'
Unless she ain't comin' back
Unless she drove 'em over broken glass and run 'em all flat
Unless racin' Dale Jr. is her secret desire
A girl just don't go get a new set of tires
She can justify the glitter-eyes,
Gold toe nail polish, Gucci sunglasses
And the bottle of Italian red wine
Unless she's got her eyes on another town and another guy
A girl just don't go get a new set of tires
Unless she's leavin'
Unless she ain't comin' back
Unless she drove 'em over broken glass and run 'em all flat
Unless racin' Dale Jr. is your secret desire
A girl just don't go get a new set
Unless she's leavin'
Unless she ain't comin' back
Unless she's prone to burnin' rubber at the drop of a hat
Unless racin' Dale Jr. is your secret desire
A girl just don't go get a new set of tires
Unless she's leavin'
Unless she's leavin'
Unless she's leavin'
I sometimes wonder why
All the flowers had to die
I dream about you
And now, the summer's come and gone
And the nights they seem so long
Come on over tonight
Come on over
It's gonna be a cool night
Just let me hold you
By the firelight
If it don't feel right
You can go
Oh-oh, when the cool night
Brings back memories
Of a good life
When this love was not so old
Oh-oh, I won't talk about the past
And how love's supposed to last forever
And you don't have to take a stand
And lay out any plans
Come on over tonight
Come on over
It's gonna be a cool night
Just let me hold you
By the firelight
If it don't feel right
You can go
Oh-oh, when the cool night
Brings back memories
Of a good life
When this love was not so old
Come on over tonight
Come on over
It's gonna be a cool night
Just let me hold you
By the firelight
If it don't feel right
You can go
On a cool night
Let me hold you
On a cool night
Just let me hold you
By the firelight
If it don't feel right
You can go
On a cool night
Let me hold you
On a cool night
Just let me hold you
By the firelight
If it don't feel right
You can go
Y'all ready to have a party
Dust off your faded dreams
Ain't no cover and there ain't no dress code
T-shirts and faded jeans
Sometimes you gotta hold on to your baby
It's the only way that you survive
Y'all ready to get a little crazy
Just to prove you're alive
From the coast of Maine down to Mobile Bay
And over to Louisiann
From the Motor City to Santa Fe
And all across the land
From the California girls to the southern belles
In between Hank and Tom Petty
There ain't no stoppin'
Gotta get this thing rockin'
Y'all ready
Y'all ready for a good time
We'll tailgate to start it out
Play your air guitar
You're a bonafide rock star
Dance, and then shout
Sometimes you gotts hold on to your baby
She'll catch you when you fall
Y'all ready now it's go time
Y'all come on, y'all come on
From the coast of Maine down to Mobile Bay
And over to Louisiann
From the Motor City to Santa Fe
And all across the land
From the California girls to the southern belles
In between Hank and Tom Petty
There ain't no stoppin'
Gotta get this thing rockin'
Y'all ready
From the Texas plains up to Frisco Bay
And over to Alabam
From Atlantic City to San Jose
And all across the land
From the California girls to the southern belles
In between Hank and Tom Petty
There ain't no stoppin'
Gotta get this thing rockin'
Y'all ready
Y'all ready
Bring your cousin and the teacher
Tell your sister and the preacher
Y'all ready
Y'all ready
Call the doctor and your nanny
Load the truck and get your granny
Y'all ready
Y'all ready
Y'all ready to have a good time
Dust off your faded dreams
